Where To Find Executive Chef Jobs, And How To Qualify For An Executive Chef Job
Executive chef jobs are the pinnacle of a career in catering, and are very difficult to obtain. There is no getting away from the fact that most executive chefs have achieved their lofty position after starting at the bottom and working their way up over many years of hard work. If you are considering shooting for a top job in catering, you will first need to consider whether or not you have the necessary credentials for the job. There is more than just desire and keenness needed here, as there is a lot of physical work needed over work shifts which can be very long indeed.
As a chef's job requires a high standard of physical fitness, it is worth starting some kind of exercise regime if you have not already done so. Most people who are in reasonable physical shape will find that they can develop the stamina they need with enough work and practice. It is important to develop a basic degree of physical fitness, and then you should be able to grow into the demands of the job simply through practice.
Anyone wishing to reach the top in catering and secure an executive chef job will need to realize that this only comes after years of working your way up to the top. As with most other professions, the people who reach the very top are the ones who have a genuine enthusiasm for what they do. They would not want to switch to another career even if it offered far greater rewards in financial terms. Part of the reward for a great chef is just to be able to create and satisfy their creative need. Many great chefs started in their own kitchen, trying to learn as much as they could.
Of course, there is never any substitute for high quality training from a cooking school dedicated to producing chefs with a deep knowledge and a developed ability, and it is strongly recommended that anyone who is serious about a culinary career takes a place at a cookery school. The most effective combination is to use your own kitchen as a place of experimentation, while making sure that you stick to what you have been taught in the school. Eventually, the two will reinforce each other, and you will make rapid progress.
An executive chef job can only be won by going through the long and necessary steps, starting at cookery school and going through the lower levels in professional catering. As you progress in your career, keep using your own home kitchen as a way of experimenting and developing your own unique style. The more competent you can be with your own individualistic style, the more likely you are to land the top job. It is those who truly understand their role who go on to win the top executive chef jobs.
